Your Eyes

By Anthony Salazar

There is a Pain so immaculate

Written in your edges

And still,

Your heart is kind.

There is struggle behind your beauty—

Pain that seems to haunt

The depths of your mind.

And still,

Your eyes remain the same;

So Innocent and light

That most can hardly tell that such darkness ever lingered.

Behind the snowflakes of your eyes

One can see the weight of existence,

The weight of the universe—

The very weight of life.

And still,

Within your eyes

There is peace within each breath

Where everything that was

No longer breaks into the moment that is;

Where pain no longer clutches life;

A place where all appears

Safe.
