Loss

By Sravani Banerjee

Vivacious, witty and charming

Gracious host--the perfect army wife

Chiffon sarees-pastels, paisley and pearls

An avid reader and prolific writer

Devoted mother, indulgent and loving

Our driving force

Our pillar of strength

Fiery temper, never hesitated to reprimand

Arrogant she was, proud of her heritage, her husband and her children.

I gaze upon her cherubic smile as she nibbles on a biscuit

One of the few things she can still do by herself

Confined to her chair

Dependent on caregivers

She has forgotten how to read

Or form an intelligible sentence

She, who gave me life,

doesn't even know me today.
